FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What can I expect from an initial visit?

An Initial intake visit lasts approximately 2 hours and includes a comprehensive health history and physical assessment. Doctor Eller will review any previous labwork provided and your current supplements and medications.  She may recommend further testing. Dr. Eller will offer initial recommendations including dietary, lifestyle modifications and remedies.  Follow up visits are usually scheduled for 1-2 weeks to one month, depending on the complexity of your case.

  • What can I expect from a follow up visit?

Follow up visits can last from 30 minutes to 90 minutes.  We review symptom changes since last visit, any new labwork and make adjustments to treatment plan.

  • Does insurance cover visits and remedies? Does insurance cover naturopathic medicine?

Unfortunately, insurance does not cover naturopathic medicine services in the state of Colorado. The current insurance model isn’t structured to support the longer, more comprehensive visits required to provide individualized, high-quality care.

It is possible that your health insurance company will reimburse you for you visit.

While we do not bill insurance directly, we are happy to provide procedure and diagnostic codes so you can submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Many of our patients choose to use HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) funds for their visits. Please note that coverage for naturopathic medicine varies by plan, so check with your provider first.

For in person and local patients, we partner with multiple cash-pay laboratories that offer significantly lower prices than typical insurance-based rates. This ensures you have access to comprehensive testing without surprise costs.

  • How do I prepare for my visit?

Please take a few steps to ensure your visit is as productive as possible:

    • Have recent lab results available for your doctor to review — either printed or uploaded to your Charm patient portal
    • — If your lab results are stored in another portal, make sure you can log in from your device during your visit so we can view them together.

Other providers may fax lab information to

    • Complete your intake and consent forms at least 48 hours before your appointment.
    • Bring any supplements you’re currently taking so we can review them as part of your personalized care plan.
  • Can Dr Eller order more comprehensive testing?

Yes, Dr Eller can order more comprehensive lab testing to better understand the root causes of your symptoms. This allows us to create a personalized plan to help you restore and maintain long-term health.

In addition to standard blood work, we offer a wide range of functional and specialty lab tests, including:

    • Comprehensive blood, saliva, and urine hormone panels
    • Full thyroid panels
    • Food Intolerance and Sensitivity Panels and sensitivity testing
    • Comprehensive hormone panels
    • Comprehensive stool / gastrointestinal microbiome panels (used for gut health, dysbiosis, parasites)
    • Adrenal function testing
    • Nutrient status testing
    • Mold and environmental toxin panels
    • Nutrient status testing (micronutrient panels, vitamin & mineral levels)

Our goal is to uncover what’s driving your symptoms so we can guide you toward genuine, lasting wellness — not just manage lab number

  • Are there any additional fees I should anticipate?

    • Lab fees:

Lab fees are not included in the cost of your visit. Prices vary depending on which tests are needed and where they’re processed.

As a reference, comprehensive blood work panels typically start around $150 — these include standard wellness labs plus additional markers such as nutrient levels, thyroid hormones, inflammation markers, and metabolic indicators.

Our naturopathic doctors offer a range of functional and specialty lab tests to help uncover the root causes of your symptoms. We’ll always discuss testing options and costs with you before ordering.

    • Nutritional Supplements cost:

We often recommend herbs, nutritional supplements, and vitamins as part of a holistic treatment plan.  Dr Eller will recommend physician-grade supplements that meet rigorous quality and purity standards, which can be purchased at the clinic or ordered through FullScript.

If you prefer to source supplements elsewhere, we’re happy to suggest reputable local or online retailers. (Please note: we do not recommend purchasing supplements from unregulated marketplaces like Amazon.)

  • Is Naturopathic Medicine the same as Functional Medicine?

    Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct health care profession that combines the wisdom of nature with the rigors of modern science.

Naturopathic doctors (ND) go to Naturopathic medical school (in person, not an online program) and are trained as primary care providers who diagnose, treat and manage patients with acute and chronic conditions. They do this while addressing disease and dysfunction at the level of body, mind and spirit. Naturopathic medicine is not exactly the same as functional, alternative, or complimentary medicine but those terms are often used interchangeably.

    Functional Medicine

Naturopathic Doctors are the original functional medicine practitioners. In fact, NDs are considered the nation’s leading experts in preventive medicine and natural health care.

As people have demanded more holistic, patient-centered care, this has forced many conventional providers (MDs, DOs, PAs, and NPs) to expand upon their basic medical education to incorporate natural therapies, nutrition and functional testing to meet this demand.

All of these approaches are part of the standard naturopathic medical education that ND’s are trained in. Conventional practitioners have to seek additional medical education after graduation (often in weekend courses) in order to gain an understanding of a more natural approach to medicine, but their foundations for treatment are always built on pharmaceuticals and surgery. Naturopathic doctors are steeped in the holistic approach throughout their medical training.

The functional approach, similar to naturopathic medicine, is an integrative, science-based approach to health and healing that focuses on treating the underlying cause of disease.

Our education teaches us that each individual is biochemically unique and therefore each patient’s care is individually tailored to restore their structural, physiological and psychological balance.

  • How Naturopathic Medicine Works

We spend at least an hour with all new patients gathering as much information as we can, not only about the main issue that brings you in, but also about your diet, lifestyle and other conditions that may seem like they aren’t related to your health, but may very well play a contributory role to the main health issue(s) you’re concerned about.

You aren’t made up of separate, independent organs organized by medical subspecialties! Your body is one integrated whole and should be treated that way in order to achieve true health.

This is the future of medicine – our doctors spend time with you, listen, identify and address the root cause of illness.  Sometimes this is straightforward while other times it may be very complex. Regardless, we’ll explain to you exactly what’s going on and what you can expect.

  • Naturopathic Medicine Principles

We are guided by these principles that inform everything we do:

    Identify & Treat the Causes

We work to identify and remove the underlying causes of illness rather than to merely eliminate or suppress symptoms.

    First Do No Harm

We utilize methods and medicinal substances which minimize the risk of harmful side effects. We believe in integrating pharmacological agents into patient care when appropriate, but we try to support people in using lower risk options first.

    Doctor As Teacher

We take the time to educate our patients and support them in self-responsibility for health.

    Treat the Whole Person

We take the time to get to know you and consider your individual physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social, spiritual, and other factors.

    Prevention

We emphasize the prevention of disease by assessing risk factors, heredity and susceptibility to disease, and by making appropriate interventions to prevent illness.
